The organization laid its foundation in the year 1945 at Calcutta, under the innovation and vibrance of our beloved Founder Mr. Rusi. B. Gimi, a leader in outdoor advertising. He visualizes classic 20×10 hoarding board for his innovation so was the two iron pillar format, which shaped the face of outdoor advertising. He laid the OOH to be a successful business for the future, post-independence.
Selvel, the company started by Rusi, soon became synonymous with outdoor advertising. “ If the advertising message was outdoor, it had to be SELVEL”. . He was tremendously enthusiastic about building a company driven by strong principles, sound work ethic and great values. He shaped the group from its inception & handed over, while still young himself, to the next generation.
He believed in delegation and evolving future leaders. The success of Selvel lured others into this profession and Mr. Rusi. B. Gimi organized these new entrants into a well-knit association - the outdoor advertising association and guided it as its President for seven years. Today Selvel is one of the largest OOH Media owners company with many Employees.

Decades ago, a young man sat across the desk from his client, little realizing that history was about to be made. It was his quick mental insight that enabled him to spot an unusual and unexpected business opportunity that got thrown up during the conversation. Unfazed, he quietly grasped it with both hands, as if that was what he had intended all along. The rest is history.
Today, Rusi B. Gimi has been permanently installed in the Advertising Hall of Fame and the business model he proposed has gone on , long since , to set new standards in the industry. Starting out small , few could have predicted that the company he launched would go on to be one of India’s largest Out-of-Home media assets company with the largest range of products and services that go beyond mere Billboards.
